About me

My name is Timothy Huang, and I am currently a first year student studying biological sciences at the University of California, Irvine. In the future however, I have hopes and intentions of switching majors to study pharmaceutical sciences and double majoring in chemistry to hopefully attend pharmacy school or study chemistry at graduate school.

I have three older sisters and I am the youngest of six members in my family (parents included). I currently have two dogs (pictured on the left). Nomi, the one in the front, is a Maltese and is currently one and a half years old. Butter, the one in the back, is a Cockapoo (a Cocker Spaniel and Poodle mix) and just recently turned 11 years old.

I was born in Taiwan on December 1995 and I lived there for 8 years. In the middle of second grade, my family moved to Irvine, California, where I lived for the next 5 years. Upon graduating 6th grade, my family moved to Shanghai, China, in order to accommodate my dad's new job. I lived in Shanghai for the next 6 years; until I graduated high school and came back to Irvine to pursue my education at college.

This website is written for the sole purpose of the Writing 39C class I am currently taking. It will contain most of my writing throughout the entire quarter. Following the theme of the class, "Animal Studies", I would be writing about and posting my research into animal care, relations, and behaviors. Having multiple pets in the past, currently caring for two dogs, and being an animal lover in general, I'm excited to see what I can learn in the class and what class has to offer.

Coming into this class, I'm probably most scared of the amount of writing (workload) I will be assigned and the grading. I don't consider myself as a strong or a fast writer, and I struggle with grammar and being able to communicate clearly without redundancy. I hope that taking this class this quarter could improve upon my weaknesses and teach me how to write proper research papers.

My Reflection Essay

An essay about my journey through this quarter

About The course

Writing 39C is a course offered at the University of California, Irvine. It is a course designed to teach students how to evaluate and integrate sources to present and tackle a global or societal issue. Students are taught to navigate databases to search for relevant academic sources, learn to communicate with multimodal elements, and advocate issues through social media. The course requires two major papers, the Historical Conversations Project (HCP) and the Advocacy Project (AP). The HCP requires students to look for multiple studies on a topic and create a paper discussing the progression of research on this topic over time. The Advocacy Project requires the students to use research studies to address a global issue and offer viable solutions.

This website is my e-portfolio for this course. It contains work that I've done for this course throughout the quarter and my reflection of my self as a student and my journey to understanding the process of creating a research paper.
