Social Media Advocacy Project

About Safe:
SAFE (Save Animal From Experimentation) is the name of our advocacy group. Our advocacy project was meant to raise awareness of animal experimentation and to inform UCI students and other people of the issue. The main goal of this campaign was to get people to adopt a cruelty free lifestyle, meaning that they purchase products from companies that do not test their products on animals. The advocacy project required us to use social media platforms as a way to reach our target audience. The social media platforms we had chosen were Facebook, Twitter, and a WIX. As a group, we decided that the best way to distribute the work equally was to brainstorm as a group and have each person be in charge of a social media platform. I was in charge of maintaining our Twitter platform while Ryan and Ming were in charge of Facebook and the WIX website respectively. We decided to create a campaign revolving around a 7 day challenge, where participants have to complete the daily assigned tasks. The 7 day challenge was meant to promote animal love and care, spread knowledge about animal experimentation, and to slowly introduce the participants to a cruelty free lifestyle. Being in charge of Twitter, I had to: create a Twitter account, make the Twitter page visually appealing, post daily facts, statistics or videos about animal experimentation, link our Facebook and main websites, and to advertise our 7 day challenge. In addition, I also contributed largely to creating the infographic and the presentations for our group (found below). Overall I felt like work was distributed equally across the group. However, there were certain moments where one person had to do more work than the other. For example, I was the only person in charge of designing and creating the first infographic. This was mainly because we were not physically together to work on the infographic, and it was not possible to edit the same infographic at the same time. However, I believe the additional work was justified because I thought that Twitter was probably the easiest social media platform to manage. Overall, I also felt like communication wasn't an issue in our group. We decided the most effective way to communicate was through Facebook chat mainly because all of us have Facebook and check them frequently. We also used Facebook to choose an agreeable time to work on the presentations and infographics. However, I feel like in the future, we could potentially improve our collaboration by physically meeting to work the presentation or group work. It would be easier to discuss our thoughts and our plans if we can discuss it in person.
presentations

The presentation before campaign was a presentation we gave about our plan for our campaign. The presentation included our topic, the social media platforms we plan to use, what we plan to do on each platform, and what we plan to post for each day. The presentation after campaign was a presentation we gave reflecting our 7 day campaign. It included what we posted on the social media platforms, our arguments, the rhetorical decisions we made, responses to our social media platforms, what we learned about each platform, and what we would do differently the next time. For these presentations, I contributed by creating a rough layout of our presentation (what to include and where), and what points i feel that we should make for the presentation. Overall I thought the presentations went well. I don't recall how my classmates responded to our presentation, but looking at it now, I feel like our presentation could of been better if we included more pictures and reduce the amount of text.
